For a mid-term project marking Otl Aicher’s centenary, I explored his multifaceted legacy as a designer, philosopher, and thinker.
Drawing on his essay The World as Design, I wrote Destroying and Creating - an essay examining humanity’s dual impulse to destroy and to create, suggesting that our creative capacity is nature’s answer to our destructive instincts.
In parallel, I developed a contemporary visual language inspired by Aicher’s pictographic work. Using abstract, single-line forms reminiscent of italics, I designed a series of minimalist symbols that function like characters - each carrying meaning, yet interlinked to express complex ideas with visual economy.
Together with my peers, we compiled our essays and visual interpretations into a collective publication, continuing Aicher’s spirit of critical inquiry and experimentation.
