The Female Data Station, developed in collaboration with Carmen Schneider for our final joint Bachelor's exhibition. Her project, Good Sport, addresses the female data gap in athletic performance and sports medicine. In our joint exhibition we want to present an interactive installation that explores the female data gap and its implications for healthcare and performance.
The installation transforms an abstract structural issue into a straightforward physical action. Visitors can enter a signal by choosing from different categories, such as health, sport, pain, fatigue, performance, hormones, recovery, and menstrual signals. They then receive a printed receipt from the ‘default system’, which provides information about the implications of the female data gap for the chosen category.
This information is accompanied by an error message such as ‘probably psychological’, ‘try again later’, or ‘not representative’. Visitors can then return their receipt by hanging it on a growing wall of defective outputs. In return, they receive a credit note as a commitment to building better systems. The credit note contains a link to our website, where we explain both our projects and invite people to join the movement and help close the female data gap.
